Where exactly in Christchurch are you located?
Supa Karts is conveniently located at 91 Buchan Street in Sydenham, just a remarkably short drive from the Christchurch city centre. We are perfectly positioned for locals and tourists alike who are eagerly looking for an adrenaline-fuelled day out. With plenty of free street parking available right outside the venue, coordinating your arrival is entirely hassle-free. Whether you are travelling directly from the CBD or the wider Canterbury region, finding our premier racing facility is incredibly straightforward and quick.
Is your go-kart track fully indoors?
You will be thrilled to know that our spectacular 300-metre racing track is completely indoors. You never have to worry about the deeply unpredictable Canterbury weather ruining your group's plans. Whether it is pouring rain, howling with wind, or blazing with sunshine outside, our premium indoor facility guarantees a fantastic, high-speed racing adventure. We consistently maintain optimal, dry racing conditions on the circuit, ensuring your go-karting experience remains superbly safe, extremely fast, and completely uninterrupted all year round.
Electric karts are everywhere now; why do you still insist on using petrol engines?
While we love the raw, visceral thrill of authentic motorsport, petrol engines also provide crucial operational advantages for our track. Crucially, petrol power enables us to host our incredibly popular continuous racing events, such as the Individual Grand Prix and spectacular Team Endurance relays. Battery-powered karts require frequent, frustrating charging breaks, which completely disrupts seamless endurance formats. Furthermore, while electric karts offer heavy initial torque to help equalise varying driver weights, their electronic systems can sometimes inconsistently bog down under load. Our premium petrol fleet delivers absolutely consistent, reliable power lap after lap, guaranteeing a fair, uninterrupted, and profoundly authentic racing experience.
Do I need to book in advance, or can my group just walk in and race?
While walk-in racers are always warmly welcomed at our premier indoor circuit, we highly recommend booking your track time in advance. Our venue gets incredibly busy, particularly on weekends, school holidays, and rainy Canterbury days when everyone is seeking an unforgettable indoor adrenaline rush! Spontaneous walk-ins will happily be placed in the very next available session, which may occasionally involve a short wait. To completely avoid any disappointment and instantly secure your exact racing slot, simply use our live online booking portal. This perfectly ensures a seamless, high-speed experience for your entire group from the moment you arrive.
How many go-karts are typically allowed on the track at the exact same time during a casual race?
During our casual racing sessions, we carefully regulate track capacity to guarantee a safe and exhilarating experience. We allow a maximum of twelve go-karts on the circuit at any one exact time. This specific limit is intentionally chosen to ensure that every driver enjoys a premium motorsport environment without the track ever feeling overcrowded. It provides you with plenty of wide-open space to confidently test your top speeds and perfect your overtaking manoeuvres, while still offering enough friendly competition to keep your adrenaline pumping. Our experienced track marshals continuously monitor the flow of the session to maintain a seamless, highly enjoyable, and completely safe race for all competitors.
What How does your 300-metre track compare to other indoor entertainment venues around the city?
Unlike typical indoor entertainment centres where karting might just be a small side attraction, our 300-metre track is a dedicated, real-world racing circuit. This distance provides plenty of room to properly get up to speed on the straights and find a consistent rhythm through the corners. Many multi-activity indoor venues are restricted by space, which often results in tighter, slower track layouts. Our track focuses entirely on the pure driving experience. We offer a realistic layout where you can practice genuine racing techniques, safely test your skills, and enjoy the true momentum of our lightweight petrol karts. It delivers a highly authentic, straightforward motorsport experience rather than just a quick amusement
Do you have any slow-speed practice runs for someone who has never driven a go-kart before?
While we do not run separate slow-speed practice sessions, first-time drivers have absolutely nothing to worry about. You naturally remain in complete control of your kart's acceleration and can comfortably take your initial laps at your own steady pace. If you are feeling particularly nervous, we highly recommend visiting on a quieter weekday when our exceptionally supportive marshals can provide even more dedicated guidance. Alternatively, if you visit on a busy weekend, nervous adults are warmly welcome to join a family session. You will still comfortably pilot a full-sized adult kart, but the track speed is safely restricted, creating the absolute perfect environment to confidently master the sweeping corners!
Can my family watch me race from a safe and comfortable viewing area if they choose not to drive?
Absolutely! We actively encourage vibrant spectators to come along, soak up the thrilling, high-octane atmosphere, and passionately cheer on their friends and family. Supa Karts proudly features a fantastic, completely safe elevated grandstand viewing platform where non-drivers can comfortably observe the fast-paced action unfolding across our premier indoor circuit. This spectacular elevated vantage point is absolutely perfect for capturing phenomenal photos and action-packed videos of your loved ones expertly carving through the tight corners and rocketing across the finish line. Even if you stay entirely out of the driver’s seat, you can comfortably share in the unforgettable adrenaline and immense motorsport excitement!
Aren't petrol go-karts significantly heavier and much harder to steer than modern electric ones?
It is actually a common misconception that petrol go-karts are the heavier option. In reality, due to the massive battery packs required to power them, modern electric go-karts—like those found elsewhere in Christchurch—are definitely significantly heavier than their petrol counterparts. Because our premium petrol fleet carries far less weight, our karts offer exceptional agility, light handling, and highly responsive steering. This makes them incredibly easy to manoeuvre around the circuit without causing unnecessary driver fatigue. Our lightweight karts provide a purely authentic motorsport experience, delivering that iconic engine roar and smooth mechanical feedback that makes you feel exactly like a true professional racer out on the track.
Are there dedicated overtaking zones on your track, or can I pass my colleagues at any corner?
You can absolutely overtake your colleagues at almost any point on our circuit, meaning there are no restricted overtaking zones to hold you back! As long as you follow our fundamental safety rules—such as no deliberate bumping or aggressive block-passing—the entire track is yours to race. Our layout features an excellent mix of fast straights and technical corners, providing plenty of strategic opportunities to outmanoeuvre your friends and smoothly claim the inside line. Our experienced track marshals continuously monitor the session to ensure all passing is done cleanly and safely. Keep your eyes open for gaps, time your acceleration perfectly, and enjoy the thrill of competitive, fair motorsport.
What is your official cancellation policy if my group size suddenly drops on the day of my booking?
We understand that life happens, so we treat last-minute group changes on a flexible, case-by-case basis. If a driver is unexpectedly sick or injured, we absolutely want them to stay home and recover! Whenever possible, we are happy to help by offering ride tickets or rescheduling their race, especially if we can easily recover the lost track time. However, last-minute dropouts for large groups during our busiest peak times severely impact our scheduling and turn away other eager racers. To protect these premium slots, we often require advance deposits or full payments for major bookings. Simply communicate with our friendly team as early as possible, and we will work out the fairest solution for everyone!
How do your track marshals ensure the racing stays fair and safe if someone drives aggressively?
We use a multi-layered approach to keep the racing fair, thrilling, and safe, ensuring the true champion earns their win. It all begins with a comprehensive pre-race safety briefing. During practice laps, we proactively coach individual drivers if they need guidance, and we will happily address the entire group together if everyone needs a quick refresher. Once the race heats up, marshals actively monitor the track using clear visual warning boards. To maintain fair competition, any aggressive behaviour or broken rules—like passing under an orange light—triggers an immediate penalty by temporarily slowing the kart down. This seamless system keeps the adrenaline pumping while ensuring everyone stays completely safe. Book your next epic group race online today!
Are there specific competitive race formats that allow me to race seriously without having to organise a massive group?
You absolutely do not need to organise a massive group to experience serious, high-stakes motorsport competition! We regularly host dedicated race nights and Sodi World Series (SWS) events designed specifically for individual drivers and small teams. For solo racers, our competitive sprint formats offer intense, structured racing where you can safely push your absolute limits alongside other passionate drivers. If you have a couple of fast friends, keep an eye out for our epic team relay endurance races featuring highly strategic driver changes. These specialised events mean you can easily sign up and race fiercely without the hassle of coordinating a dozen people. Spaces fill up fast, so check our online calendar and secure your spot today!
Do I need to wear specific racing clothes, or do you provide the safety gear?
For your absolute safety, you must wear securely enclosed, flat footwear—so please leave the jandals at home! If you gracefully happen to forget, we have a handy collection of spare track shoes you can borrow to ensure you never miss out on racing. We highly recommend comfortable casual clothing, though we offer optional race suits that are absolutely fantastic for chilly Christchurch winters, albeit a bit too warm for summer. Supa Karts perfectly provides freshly sanitised, certified racing helmets, but you are warmly welcome to bring your own approved motorsport helmet. Simply ensure long hair is completely tied back before racing.
Can I wear my prescription glasses under the safety helmet, or must I wear contact lenses?
You are absolutely warmly welcome to comfortably wear your standard prescription glasses while tearing up the track at Supa Karts. Our carefully sanitised, premium racing helmets feature wonderfully designed interior padding that securely accommodates most optical eyewear styles. You should not experience any unpleasant pressure against the sides of your head while enthusiastically focusing on hitting your racing lines! While contact lenses remain an exquisitely hassle-free alternative if you happen to sport uniquely large or bulky frames, the vast majority of our valued drivers confidently wear their everyday glasses behind the wheel with absolutely zero issues or discomfort.
Is the roar of petrol engines going to be deafening and overwhelming inside an enclosed space?
While our authentic petrol engines produce a thrilling roar, the noise enhances the exhilarating atmosphere rather than becoming dangerously overwhelming. We proudly run premium 2-stroke karts, which famously deliver a smoother, crisper, and slightly quieter high-revving sound compared to the clunky noise of standard 4-stroke racing karts. This provides that classic, high-octane motorsport ambiance true racing enthusiasts completely adore! However, we deeply understand that sensory preferences vary. If you or a family member are particularly sensitive to loud noise, we highly recommend bringing earmuffs. Alternatively, we conveniently sell affordable disposable earplugs at our front counter and vending machines to ensure your experience remains completely comfortable.
Do you provide secure locker facilities so I can safely store my bags while I am out racing?
We completely understand that you want absolute peace of mind regarding your personal belongings while focusing on securing your fastest lap time. While we always gently advise bringing minimal valuables to the track out of precaution, we do provide dedicated, secure storage areas. Here, you can safely leave your bags, jackets, and phones while you are out racing. Our highly attentive staff maintain a constant, watchful eye over the venue. This ensures you can thoughtfully channel all your adrenaline and concentration entirely into overtaking your fiercely competitive friends on the circuit!
Is it possible for me to bring my own professional racing helmet and gloves to use on the track?
We absolutely encourage passionate racers to bring their own professional gear! If you have your own personal racing helmet and gloves, you are more than welcome to wear them on our track, provided they meet our basic safety standards. Before you jump into the driver's seat, our experienced track marshals will just need to complete a quick visual inspection of your helmet to ensure it features a full-face visor and the appropriate safety certifications. Wearing your own perfectly fitted equipment can significantly enhance your comfort, focus, and overall racing experience. Of course, if you decide to travel light, we always provide complimentary, fully sanitised helmets for all of our guests to use.
I am quite tall and broad; what happens if I cannot comfortably fit into your standard karts?
We want everyone to experience the thrill of our circuit, which is why our modern karts effortlessly accommodate a wide variety of heights and builds. Our go-karts feature fully adjustable seating and pedal setups to ensure taller or broader drivers can easily secure a highly comfortable racing position. Our friendly pit crew is always on hand to perfectly adjust your kart before you head onto the track. While fundamental safety regulations do dictate some upper physical limitations, the vast majority of our taller drivers fit perfectly. If you have any specific sizing concerns prior to your visit, simply reach out to our welcoming team, and we will happily arrange a quick pre-race test fitting for you!
Since you do not have a dedicated car park, where should I securely park my vehicle?
Finding our track is easy, and parking is completely hassle-free! While we do not have our own dedicated lot, there is plenty of free on-street parking directly outside our Sydenham venue. If you park on Byron Street along the long side of our building, please note these convenient spots have 60- and 120-minute time limits. For a completely unrestricted stay, we highly recommend grabbing an all-day spot on Buchan Street. This runs right along the shorter side of our building and is just as close to the entrance! Whether you are visiting for a quick high-speed sprint or staying longer for a massive group event, you will easily find a secure park nearby.
How early do I actually need to show up before my officially scheduled track time begins?
Your booked time is exactly when you need to walk through our front doors! There is absolutely no need to arrive early, as your scheduled time is specifically dedicated to getting you prepped for the track. Once you arrive, our friendly team will smoothly guide you through the registration process, finalise any payments, and take you through our comprehensive safety briefing. After everyone is geared up, comfortable, and completely understands the racing rules, we will unleash you onto the circuit for your high-speed adventure. By booking a specific time slot, you ensure your group has a dedicated, seamless window to get ready and race without any stressful rushing.
Is there a strict cut-off time for me to complete the compulsory safety briefing before heading trackside?
Because your safety briefing is seamlessly integrated right into your scheduled arrival time, there is no strict cut-off window to stress over! When your group arrives, our team guides everyone through the mandatory briefing together. This is an absolute safety requirement before stepping trackside. If someone arrives late and misses this group run-through, we will always do our absolute best to ensure they do not lose any actual track time. However, they must wait until a staff member is completely free to brief them properly. Depending on our grid schedule, we may need to slot them into a later race or rebook them entirely. To guarantee a flawless experience, simply make sure your whole crew arrives together!
